La Mar Food Walk

Exploring Lima’s Culinary Boom Street

La Mar Avenue isn’t just a street — it’s where Lima’s culinary boom began.
Once home to mechanic shops and garages, La Mar transformed when renowned chef Gaston Acurio opened his first cevichería here, igniting a food revolution that put Peruvian cuisine on the world map.

Today, it’s a vibrant street filled with artisan cafés, bustling markets, legendary seafood spots, and local taverns — and we’re taking you straight to the heart of it.

We start the morning with a specialty coffee tasting at a local café, sampling beans from Peru’s top coffee regions. Get ready to taste bold, complex flavors and learn how coffee culture is evolving here.

Next, we visit the Mendiburu Market, a neighborhood gem where we’ll explore colorful stalls packed with exotic fruits, vegetables, and local ingredients. Of course, we’ll taste a curated selection of tropical and Andean fruits — many of which you won’t find outside Peru.

Then it’s ceviche time! We head to La Preferida, a beloved local tavern, for a hands-on ceviche tasting experience paired with a surprise pisco tasting — featuring rare and artisanal piscos you won’t find on a typical menu.

We finish sweetly at a classic Lima-style tavern, where a dessert platter of Peruvian favorites (think suspiro limeño, mazamorra morada, and more) closes the journey with a sugar-kissed smile.
